MIND diet continues to be associated with lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease, delaying onset of Parkinson’s disease, slowing cognitive decline with aging, and increased longevity

Since 2015 when Martha Clare Morris, PhD, nutritional epidemiologist and her colleagues at Rush University Medical Center discovered the association between the MIND diet and lowering the risk of Alzheimer’s disease by 53%, more research has emerged supporting lower risk of cognitive decline with aging and other brain related diseases. The following are some of the studies among many if you would like to review:

If you aren’t familiar with the MIND diet, M.I.N.D. stands for Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay. When you search the web you find many different forms/outlines of the diet out there. I reviewed the original study and it is very specific to the amounts of foods eaten every week and associated benefits, not just the types of foods you eat, but how much and how often you eat them. We’ve always known good nutrition overall prevents chronic diseases, but now the scientists are continuing to prove it!

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) tests produce every year for pesticides which results in a list of those with the most pesticide make the dirty dozen list. (Those with the least pesticide make the clean dozen list). Choose organic for those on the dirty 12 to reduce your intake of pesticides. Here’s a copy of the 2021 list:

Coronavirus Remains in Air for up to 3 hrs, and on Surfaces 2-3 Days

Awareness is key in helping prevent further spread of Coronavirus. A recent article from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) reported the scientists found that coronavirus was detectable in aerosols for up to three hours, up to four hours on copper, up to 24 hours on cardboard and up to two to three days on plastic and stainless steel. The results provide key information about the stability of SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19 disease, and suggests that people may acquire the virus through the air and after touching contaminated objects.

Supplements Recalled by FDA

A number of dietary supplement companies recently had supplements recalled by FDA.
